How do I enroll in coverage through the SHOP Marketplace?
You enroll in SHOP coverage directly through a Your Health Idaho Certified agent or broker or insurance company. For help locating an agent or broker visit YourHealthIdaho.org or call the Your Health Idaho Consumer Resource Center at
You can also use the premium estimation tool to browse and compare plans and pricing information.
Your agent or broker, or insurance company will help enroll you and your employees. You don’t need to wait for SHOP eligibility confirmation to enroll. You may enroll in SHOP on a rolling monthly basis. The deadline to enroll is always the 15th of the month for coverage to be effective the 1st of the following month.
Starting in 2014, small employers can claim the small business health care tax credit only for coverage purchased through the SHOP Marketplace.
Direct enrollment through an agent or broker, or insurance company:
- Start by contacting a Your Health Idaho certified agent or broker or preferred insurance company. Working with your agent, broker, or insurance company, pick a plan you want to enroll in. You can also get information about available SHOP plans and pricing on through the premium estimation tool. The insurance company will provide the premium costs for you and your employees, and each of you will be able to enroll directly with the insurance company. You decide how much to contribute to your employee’s premiums.
- Upon enrollment, you’ll pay your first month’s premium directly to the insurance company.
- If you plan to claim the small business health care tax credit, you’ll need to get an official eligibility determination from the SHOP Marketplace by downloading the application. Mail the completed application to: Health Insurance Marketplace 465 Industrial Blvd London, KY 40750-0001. If you’re eligible, you’ll claim the tax credit when you submit your federal income tax returns for 2014.
- You will be notified about you about your eligibility for SHOP by phone and email. You can also ask to get your notification by mail. If you’re not eligible to participate in the SHOP Marketplace, you and your employees can keep your coverage, but you won’t be eligible for the small business healthcare tax credit.
